The RMR Canopy Difference

The most comfortable & accurate way to measure your metabolism.

Our RMR metabolism assessment uses the Italian-made COSMED Q-NRG-Max with a ventilated canopy hood — a clear, lightweight dome (pictured below in our office) that rests over your head while you relax. There's no mask sealed to your face and no clip pinching your nose, so you can breathe completely normally and simply lie back for the duration of the test.

That relaxed, undisturbed state matters. Because resting metabolic rate measures your body at true rest, anything that makes you tense or breathe differently — like a tube and a pinched nose — can skew the numbers. The canopy removes those variables entirely, which is why it's the mode validated against laboratory gold-standard methods and recommended for the most accurate readings. The result is a more comfortable experience and a more reliable measurement of exactly how many calories your body burns at rest.

What to expect

Each patient gets a clean canopy and a brand-new, medical-grade air filter. The lights are dimmed, a calming weighted blanket is placed over you, and you listen to relaxing spa music for about 15 minutes while the metabolic cart measures the oxygen you breathe in and the carbon dioxide you breathe out.

What you'll discover about your body:

  • Your true calorie baseline — precisely how many calories your body burns at rest

  • Your fat-loss target — the calorie range you need to lose body fat, built on your real numbers instead of a generic formula

  • Your muscle-gain target — the surplus you need to build lean muscle

  • Your metabolic speed — how you actually compare to peers your age and sex (do you really have a "slow" metabolism, or is something else going on?)

  • Your fuel mix — whether you're burning more fat or carbohydrates at rest, a valuable window into your metabolic health

Stop guessing about your metabolism. Measure it.

How fast is your metabolism, really? Are you burning fat or carbohydrates at rest? Most people never actually know—they rely on generic online calculators and end up under- or overeating without realizing it.

A Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) assessment is the most accurate way to measure your true metabolism. Using medical-grade indirect calorimetry, it precisely calculates how many calories your body burns at rest—simply lying back and breathing—and reveals whether your metabolic rate is fast, slow, or average compared to others your age and size.

Once you know your exact calorie burn, you can stop guessing and start fueling with precision—eating the right amount to lose fat, build muscle, or maintain, based on your body instead of a formula.

For best results, we highly recommend overnight fasting prior to your RMR assessment. Please review all pre-test protocols.

Understand Your Metabolism in Action

Your body burns calories even at rest—but how many, and from which fuel sources? An RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) test reveals how your metabolism is functioning, including whether your body is using more fat or carbohydrates for energy.

This matters for longevity. Efficient fat-burning at rest is often linked to stronger metabolic health and better mitochondrial function—the systems that power your energy, recovery, and long-term vitality. With accurate RMR data, you can build nutrition and training strategies that support fat loss, preserve lean muscle, improve metabolic flexibility, and help you feel stronger and more energized as you age.

Map Your Metabolic Blueprint

Discover exactly how many calories your body burns at rest with our RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) metabolism test. This medical-grade assessment measures your true metabolic rate and shows how factors like age, muscle mass, and hormonal balance influence how efficiently your body uses energy.

With clear, personalized data, you can build a nutrition and training plan aligned with your metabolism—not estimates or online calculators. The result? Smarter fat loss, better muscle support, and a sustainable approach tailored to your body and lifestyle.

What You’ll Learn From Your RMR Test

  • Understand Your True Calorie Burn – Know exactly how many calories your body burns at rest (your Resting Metabolic Rate), giving you the foundation for smarter nutrition and training.

  • Optimize Fuel Usage – Discover whether your body primarily relies on fat or carbohydrates at rest, and adjust your strategy to support workouts, recovery, and daily energy.

  • Dial In Your Nutrition Targets – Use accurate calorie needs to support fat loss, lean muscle gain, or weight maintenance without relying on estimates.

  • Support Long-Term Metabolic Health – Build habits and routines that improve metabolic efficiency and help sustain long-term wellness and vitality.

  • Track Changes Over Time – Monitor how your metabolism adapts as your body changes, so you can update your plan and continue making progress.
